You may have noticed I have begun to update far more sporadically and my blogging work rate has (unfortunately) decreased of late. This is a by-product of my life and the factors within it. First it was uni exams. Now it is for a completely different and far more enjoyable reason. One that is genuinely worth the trade off. That is, that in my quest to become a well respected stylist, I have begun to assist stylists at shoots on a more regular basis.

It is very exciting for me because in the beginning I started this blog as a creative outlet in an effort to counter a lack of practical styling experiences. A few months ago I was not being taken on shoots to assist such great stylists and this made me feel that unless i continued to practice my craft of styling (outside of my own wardrobe and through other means) my eye for style would not evolve, something i needed it to do. Does that make sense? Anyway, it's late and that is the best way i can explain my blogs reason for being.

I will continue to shoot and upload pics of Sydney street style because when someone has the talent and puts in the effort to express their style in a fashionably splendid manner, I wish always to compliment them. I have come to realise, the best compliment I can give them is to stop them in their tracks and ask to take a photo of them as they wear their personalities on their sleeves. Literally. A great moment for photographer and subject alike.

It has been a few days since I snapped photos. This is due to the fact that I'm finding myself busier as each day passes. The closer I get to university exams, the more I need to study; the less time I have to shoot the beautifully dressed people in Sydney. Having so many other stresses strangles my inspiration and creativity. I can't wait until it is all over so I can once again focus on my passion. Life, style, fashion and the people who wear it so well.

Going back through my archives for inspiration I spotted this photo and decided to upload "him". I chose the photo as it represents the simple, chic and elegant themes i so desire in life. Black and white with a slight lift of neutral. Understated glamour, the way I like my clothing and my life.

Upon first witnessing girls wearing RM Williams boots in the city, and then photographing the look on Louise, "Juxtaposed-TPBOOI", i thought it a unique and interesting way to express ones self.

The RM Williams boot looks to be difficult to wear but when worn correctly, it proves to be a great accessory that goes from polished to grundgy in the blink of an eye and can work well as an alternative to gumboots during these cold, wet winter months. So go on girls, give the boys the boot and wear your RM Williams with frilly dresses, leggings or tights to add an element of welcomed androgyny to any outfit.

Ok, so maybe I'm cheating with this post as it is more than simply "An Ode To Fashion Week"... For those of you who don't already know, the individual pictured above is Scott Schuman, The Sartorialist. Ignore the sun spot, despite this blemish i chose to publish this photo anyway because Scott Schuman's blog, "http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com" is what inspired me to start my own blog. He is an unassuming man, upon first glance you would find it hard to believe this is the man who influences fashion directors and stylists the world over, but he is. It was amazing to meet and speak to such a great idol of mine, i must admit i did feel a touch starstruck when i first recognised him. He and his girlfriend Garance Dore of the blog "http://garancedore.fr" are both such lovely people, i truly appreciated seeing them around fashion week. Speaking to Dore in french one day and watching Schuman at work as he shot a subject the next are moments i will not soon forget. Schuman's attention to detail when shooting, his ability to direct an inadvertent model and the care he takes to set up the shot is remarkable. My point and shoot technique suddenly seemed young and immature. I learnt lessons from him and will continue improving on my own through the rules of trial and error.

You may also notice that this picture is larger than the rest. That is because i have discovered a means by which to increase the size of the images i upload, thanks entirely to a very dear friend of mine.. "Thanks Alice"! I thought to myself, "who would be the most deserving person to be the first to be featured in the new larger image format?" I concluded that the best person would have to be Scott Schuman, The Sartorialist, The Pioneer!

Please give me some feedback on the new pic size, is it large enough?

Sometimes on my travels around the city, I will see an individual dressed in all the elements of my own wardrobe but wearing them in a new and exciting way.

The bow tie, white shirt and velvet jacket are already hanging in my closet but to combine them in such a refined manner, as Marcelle has done here, never crossed my mind.

I love the way this blog has so far helped me to better identify trends, recognise style and appreciate the difficulties associated with translating this through a camera lens. I'am not attempting to reinvent the wheel with this blog, rather i wish to educate myself and showcase Sydney as a city with fashion sense.

So often i will identify a fashionable individual in a crowd of people and my mind will instantly start working on the heading for the blog post or the little blurb i will write to accompany the subsequent photo. So often, the delicate elements required to capture the perfect fashion moment in time, are not all in sync... The subject may refuse to allow me to photograph them, the light may be bad, the wind may be blowing and worst of all, i may take a whole heap of photos that on closer inspection, when uploaded to my computer turn out to be duds!

However, once every now and then, all the right elements come together and create something great, like a beautiful symphony. Such is the case in "Juxtaposed - The Perfect Blend Of Opposing Ingredients."

Louise mixes male and female elements in an opposing black and white colour scheme to build an outfit that represents the best of style and function in a go go gadget world. When seated behind a desk, her shirt dress and jacket equip her with the correct aspects of corporate attire, but at the same time, with the unpredictable Sydney weather at the moment, the boots will serve her well when the unforseen rain shower arrives. I could talk on and on about why i like this look so much but i won't. Instead, i will let you, the viewer, take it from here.

On a normal day, I'm not a fan of jeans and thongs in the same ensemble. However, in Manly, thongs are a practical and functional accessory that fit well with any outfit. They are easily adaptable to the multiple environments the beach possesses. You can wear thongs from the water, onto the sand and then, to the surrounding concrete pathways. They are easy to clean and if you choose to take them off, they are easy to carry and slip back on at your convenience. Thongs are represented in the two photographs as they are a large part of Australian beach culture.

Why change? This is change, the first photo on the blog that is not a full length shot.

The unstructured jacket that Alice wears is so exquisite, i felt it should be the centerpiece of the photograph. To take a full length shot would have distracted you from viewing, with full appreciation, the subtle intricacies of this fine jacket.

The dress that Alice wears also possess beauty and finesse in a subtle yet well constructed manner. The lace detail is so fine, that to truly appreciate it, one must be at a close proximity.

I love how Alice matches dressy fabrics and pieces (lace and a jacket) with more casual accessories (wayfarers and robot necklace) to pull together a casual chic outfit that blurs the boundary between day and evening wear.

Anouk is from the french colony of New Caledonia and is in Australia to travel and study. Upon meeting her, i took the opportunity to speak some french with her, rare for me in Australia. She was so down to earth and unassuming of her style, it was a real pleasure shooting her. Welcome to Kahlan's Wardrobe.

The following five photographs come from the first days of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week which is now past the halfway mark. The styles, fabrics and designs on the runways have been beautiful, fluid and colourful and yet the same could be said for the extraordinary outfits that have made themselves evident outside the fashion halls, on fashion directors, stylists, celebrities and the like.
